August Orientation 2025
The last winds of August herald a new harvest – this time, with a gigantic yield! The latest intake for the Sunway Foundation Program have begun their first foray into Sunway College, beginning with none other than student orientation. Hosted by the SFP teachers, student committee, and aided by countless volunteers from SFP+ to the Sunway WeCare programme, the three-day-long orientation promises the warmest welcome to our freshmen.
On the first day, it’s quite the impressive view for the morning horde to see hundreds of the new students lining up for registration. Hailing from all over the country and even the world, they’re soon led to JC Hall for a quick Ice-breaking session to get the ball rolling. The teachers started with a bang with Sunway Party, which connected to the next game hosted by the SFPSC alongside SFP+ volunteers. Music kept the energy high, and chatter filled the hall brightly. After that, Prof. Dato’ Elizabeth Lee welcomed every student with a speech, urging them to make Sunway their new home away from home.
The SFP+ and SFPSC volunteers later reflected that the biggest challenge was the surprising number of students, as most had not expected this amount. However, they all found it a satisfying experience, with most commenting that they had learned a lot, especially regarding leading and communicating with others. On the second day, the Student Committee held the stage for a presentation promoting the committee itself, detailing its departments and duties to an attentive audience. SFP-themed Merch, being customisable keychains and a T-shirt, was an absolute hit – the most sold in the last few years! It’s a great haul for the treasury department for sure.
With the Orientation wrapping up, let’s hear a little from the protagonists themselves. The August freshmen expressed that they found the event tiring but informational and fun. They were also happy to add that their seniors and lecturers were friendly and approachable. Overall, a winning event for both sides. To our new friends, once again, welcome to Sunway Foundation!
