SFP Sprint

A Saturday afternoon brought eager students together for the SFP Sprint event, I mean, who doesn't like a fast-paced, laughter-filled event where teamwork is key? Before the games kicked off, participants warmed up together in a lively session that set the tone for the day. According to John, the eventual first-place winner, "the warm-up was entertaining and engaging with all the players thanks to the wonderful choices of songs," this was surely enhancing the atmosphere around our initial area.

Once the whistle blew, the madness began. Participants sprinted from station to station, showcasing both their teamwork and stamina. For many, the hardest game of all was 'Guess the Lyrics', where players found themselves guessing everything from simple pop songs to impossible tongue twisters like Rap God. Charades weren’t any easier either, with players struggling to convey characters while desperately praying their teammates actually knew who they were acting. At least now we know who qualifies to be in Hollywood.

Through this event, John admitted that his strategy was simple, he relied on his advantages, such as physical edge, and ran like his life depended on it.

Well, it clearly worked out in his favour. Meanwhile, players like Henry, Jasper, and Nerine approached the games with their own personal styles. Henry, who joined because his friend promised him Mixue, simply winged it through most stations. Mixue, what a motivating thing you are...? Jasper claimed his secret was just having good teammates.

While Nerine believed the key was trusting and fully relying on each other. Their mixed strategies created a somewhat interesting chaos as they completed each challenge. Gamemasters watched all of this unfold with amusement and pride. Reyuan, who oversaw 'Recreate the Drawing', shared that players were exhausted from running but still bursting with excitement. His game pushed both memory and stamina, especially with the unexpected twists he added to spice up the experience. Over at the Blindfold Challenge, gamemaster Kyeisha, watched as players stumbled, trying not to ring the cat bells tied across the room. She confidently described it as one of the toughest games, emphasizing how strategy, communication, and flexibility were for players with the intention of winning.

Despite the intensity, the atmosphere remained cheerful throughout the event. Shouts, laughter, and occasional groans echoed across the hall as teammates encouraged each other through riddles, puzzles and almost-impossible tasks. Hannah, one of the players, joined to support the SFPSC community and make memories with her friends. Although she admitted she only had an “intermediate interest” in riddles, her goal was simple, to have fun. Safe to say the SFP Sprint delivered exactly what she wanted

As the games wrapped up and players caught their breath, many walked away with hearts full of satisfaction, aside from the ache in their legs. When asked what students hope to see in future events, winner John suggested a jazz café night where everyone can relax and enjoy live music, as well as sports events that cater to popular interests like football, basketball, and badminton. In short, creating spaces where people can connect, unwind, and share unforgettable moments.

In the end, the SFP Sprint event was a lively gathering of students who came for the fun, stayed for the laughter, and left with stories they’d be talking about long after the event Whether they ran for glory, stumbled blindfolded, or simply came for Mixue, every participant walked away with memories worth keeping and a reminder that sometimes, the spirit of participation makes anything all the more worth it.

This Is Why We Clash - 2025 Clash Royale Tournament

The muffled cheers from the stands, the troops stand primed and ready, prepared to battle for their king, the arena opens its doors and the crowd erupts! Wait, why am I suddenly in JC1? Oh yes, that’s right!

The SFP Clash Royale Tournament that happened this Tuesday on the 18th of November!

Tickets to join this tournament were a hot commodity, as they sold out within days of going live for purchase. For the uninitiated, this tournament was held using Clash Royale’s Mega draft game mode where both competitors would pick and create their decks from a large grid of given cards, allowing for instant counter play, and the added risk of not being able to play your preferred playstyle and deck.

To maintain the pace of our event, it was a single elimination best of one, where we would cut down from 128 players to just our eventual champion! The atmosphere was certainly electrifying, as JC1 became not just a venue, but an arena of its own.

Our charismatic reporters managed to engage with our participants for a few pregame interviews, asking about their preferred decks, and unsurprisingly, a number of community favourites were mentioned, such as Logbaits, beatdown decks featuring such as Lava Hound and Mega Knight were also extremely prominent for their ability to decisively win matches. And of course, how could we forget the classic cycle decks where you race your opponents in elixir to chip away at their princess towers!

Our participants also listed a number of reasons for their participation in this event. Some came for fun, while some came to support and spectate their friends. Others came for a chance at the prize pool of RM300 in total.

Some participants also just said that they came “Just because it's Clash Royale”. This response really showcased the love that they have for this game – THIS IS WHY WE CLASH!

It was clear that vigorous preparation had been undertaken by all players in this event. The mood in JC1 that night quickly became intense, igniting the true competitive spirit! And to add on to this, a majority of our participants have dabbled in Clash Royale for 6 to 8 years! That is certainly a long tenure for a mobile game. When asked what made Clash Royale such a popular game in college/university setting, players replied that it was a quick way to kill time, fun with friends, and some even mentioned Jynxzi, a popular streamer who brought Clash Royale back into the mainstream media, giving the game a rebirth of sorts.

Battles raged through the night, tensions high, as 128 competitors were cut down to the final top 3. After the crescendo of our event, we were left with our final champions – Syamell in 1st, Qing Rong in 2nd, and Kim Chanseo taking our last podium finish!

This event was certainly a success, with outstandingly positive attention and results. Without a doubt, this is why we clash.

Spooky Funtober #2 - Spooktacular Workshop

Another Tuesday evening with a spooky atmosphere. Following the Movie night, can it beat the previous level of fear and fun? As the registration began, excited participants filled with hopes of having a fun time started entering the room. Looking around at the carefully prepared spooky decorations, you could feel the chills down your spine. Or was it something else…?

Once everyone was seated, excitement filled the room as the audience’s gaze brightened with expectations, awaiting to uncover what activities were prepared for the event. The workshop started with origami. Participants meticulously followed the example of the SFPCS members. With nimble fingers along with a few tips and tricks, everyone had a paper bat in their hands. You could hear them thinking: “Well, that’s a good start”. However, it was just a warmup.

The following activity was not only fun, but also yummy! The time came for everyone to use their imagination and creativity in decorating cookies. Even though it was many students’ first time attending a DIY workshop, from spiders and webs to carved pumpkins and bats, even a Sanrio character – the creativity was blooming. With sparkling eyes concentrated on their craft, it’s clear the participants enjoyed cookie decorating the most.

The next activity soon followed without slowing down. Participants found their skills put up to the test to craft Halloween-themed keychains. Spooky, yet cute, a ghost with a pumpkin hat. What could symbolize Halloween better than that? Simple pipe cleaners came alive in hands of each and every participant. Some even added a cute blush on the ghost, which inevitably leads to several “Awww”s.

The workshop was not only an arts and crafts challenge, but also an excellent chance to enjoy the last of October and make new friends. Coming back from a week of semester break, we all needed a good start of the study week.

Most of the participants planned to keep the cookies and keychains to themselves, with a few saving it to share with their friends. When asked to rate the event, the answers ranged from 8 to 10 out of 10! Regarding the difficulty of activities, while some struggled with the origami it was considered easy for the most part. Many were eager to know more about SFPSC after the night and expressed high interest in joining future events.

The Spooktacular Workshop ended with our Chairs’ speech, which was wrapped up with a loud round of applause from the audience. Looking at the countless smiles, you could tell that everyone was satisfied. At the end of the day, participants’ expectations were fulfilled. They left with not only their handicrafts, but most importantly, the memories of a fun evening worth remembering.

Spooky Funtober #1 - Cinema Of Screams

A Tuesday evening, where hundreds of students gathered for a horror movie night featuring The Sinners. In spite of some technical delays by the projector and the heavy rain, the event still began smoothly around 7:20 pm. Hey! Look on the bright side, the stormy weather added appropriate sound effects to the spine-tingling experience. Could the lecture hall be haunted too...?

While participants lined up for registration, several groups flocked around the snacks booth, buying treats to occupy their mouths during the movie. Laughter filled the air as many of them also took the chance to experience the photo booth, capturing the night’s spooky spirit with a variety of props such as devil horns and masks, which were our crowds' favorites!

Soon, the lights dimmed, a mix of screams, gasps, and laughter echoing throughout the hall. Some covered up their eyes, others laughed off the tension to turn fright into fun, you might've even seen a guy with his head stuffed into his shirt! The movie's most memorable scenes ranged from chilling headshots to hilarious jokes and references, all leaving lasting impressions. As the credits rolled in, the audience burst into applause, a telltale sign that the night was a pleasurable experience for everyone.

Most participants attended to spend quality time with their friends and enjoy a lil' lighthearted horror experience. Most spoke highly of the great decorations our hardworking committee members spent many long hours on. Regarding the atmosphere, several commented that the rain came in clutch to save the mood. When asked to describe the event, participants used words like 'scary,' 'funny,' and 'interesting.' Among these three words, 'Nah, we cousins' somehow became the unofficial catchphrase of our audience. Well, just about all the words to describe a great horror movie!

Aside from the film, the night was a golden opportunity for students to unwind from academic stress and connect with one another. From the photo booth and shared snacks to synced laughter and screams, the Cinema of Screams became more than a mere movie night but a place of fleeting, heartfelt, and meaningful connections.

And so the participants left the lecture hall, carrying contented hearts and eye-catching polaroids. Maybe all it takes to have a good time with strangers around the campus is a good horror movie with snacks. Conquering the fear they brought in, the audience finished the night with bright laughter instead.

August 2024 Intake Graduation

It has been a year since our dear August ‘24 seniors entered Sunway College’s Foundation Program, and now we’re watching them sign off the last day of their SFP journey– yes, this is SFP Graduation.

September 27th starts off with a beautiful morning as our graduates gather before the Jeffrey Cheah Hall, dressed to the nines and draped in iconic black graduation robes. Refreshments were provided at JC-1, with delectable finger foods such as curry puffs. As more and more students arrived, the foyer and green areas soon filled with bright smiles and camera flashes, each graduate eager to leave a memorable reminder of this day.

By 10AM, the seats were crowded with hundreds of graduates and their families and friends. The ceremony officially began with a welcome speech by Professor Sibrandes Poppema, the president and vice-chancellor of Sunway University. He congratulated the graduates and gave out the President’s Award to FIST’s Loo Ming Zhe and Tai Yunn Ru, along with FIA’s Chan Chee Ee, Chia Casmin, and Toh Rou Xuan. Immediately after, Lim Cindy from FI performed a stunning guzheng performance.

The hall then filled with cheering as Academic Awards were then given to the cream of the crop with an impeccable 4.0 CGPA, High Achiever Awards to the high-flyers scoring above 3.90, Distinction to the diligent students holding CGPA of 3.70–3.89, and finally Merit for those with 3.50–3.69. RM13,000 and RM7000 scholarships would be given respectively to the awarded should they continue to study in Sunway as well. Lastly, Certificates of Completion were handed to each remaining graduate.

Valedictorian Kashveeny A/P Punniya Seelan then delivered a heartfelt speech thanking her brother, friends, and lecturers for the company they kept and for enabling her to push for greater heights. This was followed by a special performance by the SFP music students, who performed a band duet of One Direction’s Night Changes.

Finally, Director of the Sunway Foundation Programme Suzana Ahmad Ramli thanked each graduate and attendees of the graduation, wishing the former a successful road ahead as they advance in their studies. The event was wrapped up with a thoughtful video displaying all of August intake’s past events, made by the SFP Student Committee.

As the rain descended, so ended a year full of memories. Be they joyful or weary, it’s certain that they’ve shaped our graduates into who they are today. These experiences shall be their stepping stones as they venture on towards university life. Congratulations, August 2024, and happy graduation!

August Spirit Week 2025

The Student Foundation Program Student Committee has recently welcomed the August 2025 foundation intake students to Sunway College during their orientation. As the freshmen started their new chapter in their lives, the SFPSC kick-started their first event in the Sunway Foundation Programme – Spirit Week! On 8th to 12th September 2025, Fonzies are to wear different themed shirts each day to celebrate unity and diversity. This event was packed with various creative and eye-catching outfit combos.

Each day of the week was given a different theme to dress up in. These were the themes of each day throughout spirit week:

Monday (8/9) - Pajamas Day
Tuesday (9/9) - Old Money Day
Wednesday (10/9) - Pink Day
Thursday (11/9) - Favourite Character Day
Friday (22/9) - Childhood Throwback Day

On the first day of the event, students had to dress up in their pajamas, simple as that. This day was a lucky day for students running late for college, as they could come straight to class without changing. The SFP turned into one big comfy slumber party. Students dressed up with fluffy socks, oversized tees, and experienced a day fighting a constant battle of not dozing off in class.

The next day, students took a step back in time and dress up in the theme of old money. This day brought back the nostalgic formality straight off the runway. This theme reflects sophisticated elegance and the understated luxury associated with generational wealth. From timeless blazers to vintage oxfords, the old money theme never goes out of fashion. Many students dressed up in the main colours of white, brown, black, and beige that day, honouring the classics.

On the third day, pink was the word to go. Whether it was pastel sweet or bold and loud, students ruled the day with pink (just like the Mean Girls), some including unique spins to their dress-up. One of them even doubled down with the pink by having their stationery, water bottles, and other items pink; it’s just pink everywhere!

The following day was an exciting one, as it was favourite character day. Students stepped into the shoes of their favourite characters that inspired them, whether they come from anime, movies, games, and more. The highlights of this day were from Alvin and the Chipmunks to Snoopy the dog. One of the coolest character dress-ups was when someone dressed up as David Martinez from Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

The finale of Spirit Week ended with childhood throwback day. This day was filled with sentiment, as students dressed up in anything that reminded them of their childhood. It was interesting and memorable to witness the nostalgia of others and see what had shaped them in the past. From Minecraft to a previous Chinese school, the whole day was just a trip down memory lane.

Throughout the whole week, the creativity and fashion of the foundation students was a spectacular sight to see and witness. The students who participated in this event showcased great creativity in their fashion and took the chance to display their true selves via clothing. This introduction of our first event for the August foundation program students of 2025 was a great success in jump-starting the college life for them, turning what could've been a dull week into a brighter, memorable time.

Powerlifter Fonzie Hala Haikal Takes Gold

Sunway College student-athlete Hala Haikal made the community proud by clinching the gold medal at an international powerlifting competition. Representing both the college and the Sunway Sports Team, the FIA student showcased exceptional strength, discipline, and resilience on the global stage.

Hala’s outstanding performance not only highlights her dedication to the sport but also serves as an inspiration to fellow Sunway students to pursue excellence both academically and athletically.

This victory is more than just about strength. It’s about resilience, discipline, and the unstoppable Sunway spirit that Hala embodies. From countless hours of training, to pushing past limits and proving that nothing is impossible when passion meets dedication — Hala has done us all proud!
